Nursing a patient on dialysis

People are forced to undergo dialysis when their kidneys fail to play a role in purifying the blood, regulating electrolytes, acid and alkalis balancing and removing waste and toxin materials.

Care of patients on dialysis is a common concern.

The goals of caring for these patients include ensuring adequate, enough nutrition, maintaining a healthy fistula, correcting hormonal deficiencies, minimizing hospitalization, and increasing the life quality and longevity.

:Course Duration

• 400 hours
• 3 month ( 90 session )
• In this regard, inadequate dialysis (inadequate dialysis dose) not only shortens survival, it also leads to malnutrition, anemia, functional disorders and frequent hospitalizations, which also increase medical costs.
• Adequate dose of dialysis, three times a week, for 3.5 hours, and the concept of urea purification is about 188 ml per minute.

Specific purposes

• Apply the principles of nursing care to prepare the patient physically, psychologically, spiritually and socially.
• Perform alternative dialysis and patient education correctly.
• Set the dialysis machine correctly and prime it.
• Based on the condition of dialysis patient, select and apply the appropriate filter.
• Connect the patient to the dialysis machine correctly.
• Make the necessary adjustments to the dialysis machine depending on the patient.
• Adjust the appropriate anticoagulation rate for the dialysis patient.
• Properly separate the patient from the dialysis machine.
• Manage complications during dialysis and perform necessary nursing care.
• Apply evidence-based nursing care methods for vascular access in the dialysis patient.
• Disinfect the dialysis machine and prepare it for later use according to the principles of the desired standards.
• Choose alternative treatment for dialysis and learn how to do the right dialysis.
• The trainee can teach the patient proper nutrition and exercise programs.
